Why this exists

Somebody in every bar ends up running the pool night. They write names down the left of a whiteboard, scratch a tally next to one of them, and spend the evening answering "whose turn is it?" and "how many have I got?" At the end they work out the pot on a phone calculator while twenty people stand around.

That is a solved problem everywhere except here. Bracket software cannot represent this format at all — it has no matches to generate. The apps that can count lives stop at counting lives: none of them tracks who has paid, what the pot is up to, or what it pays out, and none is built for a screen the whole room can read.

So that is what this is. The two-button scoring other apps have, plus the money, plus the board on the wall.

How it is built

A night is stored as an append-only log of events, and the state is a replay of it. That one decision is where unlimited undo, offline play and syncing all come from — none of them was built as a feature. The longer version.

It runs on Cloudflare: static pages at the edge, a SQLite database, and no servers to go down at 9pm on a Tuesday.

What we will not do

• Ads. Not on any plan, including free. Ads are the single most complained-about thing in this category and we would rather not be in that statistic.
• Take a cut of your pot. That money is yours. We will not touch it, and we will not process it.
• Sell your data. There is barely any — names typed on a night, and an email address so you can sign in.
• Invent social proof. There are no customer logos on this site, no star ratings and no user counts, because this launched on 2026-10-20 and there are none to show yet.

Who

Built by Jay Walker, who runs Municipal Web Works. Write to [email protected] — it goes to a person, usually the one who wrote the code.

Mistakes, in public

The first version of the research behind this product was wrong in a way that would have made the pricing wrong too. Rather than quietly fixing it, it is written up, and the original claim is still in the research document under a heading that says so.
