What we are aiming for

WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Not everywhere yet, and the gaps are listed below rather than left for you to discover.

What is actually verified

  • Colour contrast. Every text and interface colour pair in the design system is checked against WCAG 2.2 AA by a script that runs on every build — 59 pairs across the light and dark themes. The build fails if one of them drops below the threshold.
  • Colour is never the only signal. The two game buttons differ in position, in label, in icon and in lightness, not just in hue — a player with deuteranopia can run a night. Strike counts are written out in words beside the dots.
  • No horizontal scrolling at 375px, checked automatically on every page in both themes.
  • Touch targets are at least 44×44px, and the two game buttons are 88px tall.
  • Visible focus on everything focusable. We never remove the focus ring.
  • Reduced motion is respected: the order scramble and the elimination card both skip their animation and show the final state.
  • Text scales. Everything is in relative units; inputs are at least 16px so iOS does not zoom and strand you.

Known gaps

  • The TV display is designed to be looked at from across a room rather than navigated. It is not keyboard operable, because there is nothing on it to operate.
  • The admin console has had less accessibility attention than the rest, as it is used by one person.
  • We have not yet tested with a screen reader end to end on a real device. That is the next thing on this list, and we will update this page when it is done rather than claiming it now.
